Hudson County Historic Overview

Hudson County is New Jersey’s smallest county by land area and one of the most densely populated places in the United States. The original NJTGO source notes that it takes its name from the Hudson River, which forms part of its eastern border.

This page keeps the original NJTGO historic directory intact while organizing it into a more useful visitor guide for Hoboken, Jersey City, Liberty State Park, Ellis Island, and New York Harbor landmarks.

Planning Notes

Many Hudson County historic sites are working churches, active waterfront areas, museum spaces, ferry destinations, state park sites, or federally managed national monument sites. Confirm hours, ferry tickets, park alerts, museum schedules, and access rules before visiting.
